Smithville Mennonite Church

June 15, 2008 - 10:30 a.m.

Only six Sundays left until our change is counted at the Mennonite Central Committee Relief sale on August 1 and 2.  “Clear, pure water” is the cry of millions of this world’s poor.  We can answer that cry with our loose change.  Let’s fill the jug!

What’s Happening at SMC…

Real Lifers (ages 18-30) are invited to join Ken Becker at the ALIVE Festival this week at Clay’s Park in Canal Fulton.  ALIVE is an outdoor music festival featuring the latest Christian musicians and speakers.  Gates open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, and Ken will have a campsite available through Saturday, for the young adults who wish to attend. See the website, www.alive.org or contact Ken for ticket information.

All items made by individuals for the Relief Sale should be at the church by 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, to be placed on the display in the foyer.  Some items will be priced and available to buy next Sunday.

SUMMER GIRL’S CLUB (for grades 1 – 8): Come for a swim party at Anna & Katie Hershberger’s on Tuesday, June 24, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.  We will have a short devotion and a time to report on the books you are reading if you wish. Bring your card notebook.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IS COMING!  Parents can begin registering children for VBS at Smithville Mennonite, for the week of July 28 - August 1 online this year.  Go to the church website, www.smithvillemennonite.org  and on the bottom of the left side of the page you will see a link for VBS 2008.  Click on that, and it will take you to the Power Lab website. Click on Participant Registration and fill in your child’s information.  There will also be a paper registration form in your mailbox in the next few weeks if you wish to register that way.

Could you help supply Relief Kits for MCC?  Relief Kits are the greatest need to assist displaced families in Iraq.  MCC would like to have 1000 kits by July 31.  Because MCC Connections can buy in quantity cheaper than we can, they will assemble our Relief Kits.  Cost per Kit is $25.  Last year we gave 25 kits ($625).  This year we would like to increase the number because the need is so great.  Make checks to Smithville Mennonite Women and place them in the church offering or give to Ruth Miller.

Mark your calendar’s now for SMC’s Camp Luz Sunday, August 24, 2008.  Worship will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel with Tim Shue and his band.  A potluck lunch will follow in the camp dining room.  Watch for more information to come.

Oak Grove Mennonite Church is holding their Vacation Bible School this week, June 16 through 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. They have extended an invitation to children ages 4 through grade six.  They are utilizing Standard Publishing’s God’s Big Backyard, which focuses on service to others.  You can find registration forms and more information at their website:  www.oakgrovemc.org.
